About Jocelyn

I am an experienced educator and school leader committed to supporting teachers to bridge the research to practice gap in literacy. My experience working with vulnerable and disadvantaged children in remote areas of Australia has given me the proof that all children can learn to read and write, regardless of disability, location, socio-economic status or cultural background.

I am committed to promoting research and evidence based literacy practices in reading instruction including explicit teaching in the ‘Big 6’ – oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. I teach reading and writing instruction methods according to ‘simple view’, which honours the importance of oral language development as well as the necessary skills of decoding and encoding.

I look forward to sharing information and methodology with you through the No-Nonsense Educator Blog, downloadable resources, video clips and webinars.
